Project
summary |
The aim of this study was to promote and institutionalise research on pro-poor integrated coastal management in the Caribbean beyond the life of NRSP land and water interface (LWI) production system projects in this region, through the application and further development of their research processes and products.
Background |
This project built upon the experiences of earlier NRSP-funded projects (R6783, R6919, R7111, R7408, R7559, R7668, R7797, R7976, R8134 and R8135) focusing on the management of coastal resources in the Caribbean and sought to ensure the uptake and further enhancement of the research processes and products developed by these projects.
Purpose |
The aim of this study was to promote and institutionalise NRSP land water interface (LWI) production system research processes and products from projects on pro-poor integrated coastal management in the Caribbean. This would result in continued uptake beyond the original projects’ life through the application and further development of research products.
Outputs |
The Caribbean Coastal Management Research Network (COMARE Net) was established and made operational.
Coastal management research was enhanced by improved access to ICM research information and information exchange among Network participants.
Relevant research information was made more prominent in integrated coastal management and policy in the Caribbean.
Achievements |
The project produced a series of 5 policy briefs, which incorporated the outputs of other NRSP-funded projects on coastal resource co-management. These policy briefs were disseminated widely.
The COMARE Net will be supported in the future by CERMES, as part of its outreach initiative.
